Finding good fashion in Calcutta isn’t difficult. What matters is great curation. After all, when choices are many, mistakes are made. And I’d rather do me a spacious store and a handy trial room. After all, for the regular fashionista, it’s an ongoing Operation Killer #OOTD.
This weekend then, I’m shopping at Peppermint Diva, at a curation that serves up an avalanche of style- The Fashion Storm.
Eight alluring design names- Doodlage, Rara Avis, Kukoon, Sameer Madan, Brime, Quo, Jyoti Sahni and Deepak Parwani– set up shop for a handy three-day gig at the Allenby Road address. And for Peppermint Diva and Sew Button girls Deepika, Mita and Alpa it’s a double win- introducing western wear into their essentially ethnic couture store and holding the first of their many planned pop ups.
That about sums up my first impression when I went in for a dekko pre the bloggers meet (that I co-hosted). I’m vocal about my multiple personalities, and personalities too many demand multiple dress up edits. Before me hung eight fashion moods…
Kukoon with sequins and pearls sewed on, for when I’m but a quirky maverick.
Doodlage channelled my fashion-with-a-conscience vibe.
Sameer Madan had red carpet ready gowns. Diva-esque and how!
Brime promised to dress me up whispy for Sunday brunching-pilates training-diamond wearing socialite frame of mind.
Deepak Parwani, a menswear designer, had hatke options for my adrogynous moodswings.
And Jyoti Sahni was just what my current sartorial heroine Blair Waldorf ordered.
Rara Avis and Quo weren’t in yet, but a quick perusal through their Instagram threw up structure for the former and some chic essentials from the latter
There were in-store regulars too- Sew Button (the Peppermint Diva pret line), Aprajita Toor shoes and Valliyan jewellery among the lot.
So be the reason beating rainy day blues this Friday, Saturday and Sunday (July 28-30) or just about gifting yourself a killer outfit for later that night, head over to 8A Allenby Road (above Fabbrica Della Pizza in the lane diagonally opposite Forum Mall) and shop your heart out.
